AMBOY, San Bernardino County — October 27, 2026. A completed bridge project offers a concrete example of investment in Route 66’s aging infrastructure. In an October 7, 2025 project report, San Bernardino County Public Works confirmed that it had replaced the Dola Ditch and Lanzit Ditch bridges on National Trails Highway in Amboy.
The county identified a $5,549,262.02 construction contract, funded from existing discretionary general funding allocated to National Trails Highway. The work removed two older timber bridges and replaced them with concrete structures. The county describes the project as complete; this is not a new construction announcement for October 2026.
What remains unresolved along Route 66?
These two replacements are distinct from other county plans for additional bridges along the corridor. Travelers should not interpret the completion of Dola and Lanzit as confirmation that every Route 66 segment or crossing has reopened. Flash flooding and structural inspections have repeatedly affected the road, and current restrictions must be checked independently.
County Public Works maintains a National Trails Highway restrictions page. The latest capital budget separately lists additional Amboy bridge planning.
